Southland Shopping Center 2005 Scholarship Winners Announced
As part of our on-going commitment to the community, the Partners of Southland Shopping Center announced today the winners of the Annual Southland Schlarship. This is the fifth year that five deserving students from the surrounding high schools will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
The scholarship selection commitee met May 4, to determine who the scholarship recipients would be for 2005. The participating high schools are Berea, Midpark, Normandy, Parma, Valley Forge, Strongsville, Brooklyn, Holy Name and Padua Franciscan. Each school was contacted and invited to submit two students for application. The scholarship winners were selected on the following criteria: Grade Point Average; extra-curricular and community involvement; expressed desire to advance ones education; obstacles overcome to reach college admission; and other such activities or factors as the committee deemed appropriate.
The 2005 Southland Scholarship Winners are:
Jessica Badza, Normandy High School; Jason Boggs, Parma High School; Elizabeth Fackler, Berea High School; Aaron Kopchock, Midpark High School; Kathleen Krause, Strongsville High School
"There are so many deserving students," said Chuck Rini, a managing partner of Southland Stores Co. "we want to give back to the communities that have supported Southland Shopping Center for over fifty years."
Conceived in 1950, Southland is now an 800,000 square foot regional shopping center, comprised of over 50 stores, restaurants and services. Southland is managed by Visconsi Companies, Ltd. of Pepper Pike, Ohio.
